Angela's Artist Statement
Angela's current work explores the intricate connections between people, place, and time in relation to her family farm in the West of Ireland. Through her work Duffy contemplates questions of ancestry and legacy, who came before and who will come after. Her work has an underlying melancholy of absence, subtly woven through a deep sense of time past. The enduring presence of human life, what has been lost and what remains.
Duffy's artistic process is characterized by a tactile and deep engagement with materials. This allows her to manipulate and juxtapose diverse elements to forge a visceral, embodied connection to her subject. Her work functions as a container, holding stories, memories, and experiences that echo through time. The land itself acts as a repository that reveals history as objects are rediscovered when soil and stone are displaced.
Her work invites viewers to reflect on the layered history of the land and its inhabitants, perhaps it serves as an offering to those who will follow. It is, in essence, a means to better understand farming life and its enduring narratives, bridging past, present, and future through the language of materiality.
